Baby Shower Invitation – Wording Tips
By Tom Bross
The wording for a baby shower invitation is similar to that of most invitations, in that it addresses the who, what, when, and where. You’ll want to let your invitees know the name of the expectant mother, the date and time of the baby shower, directions or the address of the shower, the contact info for whom guests should R.S.V.P., and if applicable, any baby registry the mother may have and any instructions for gifts or activities. You may also want to include the name of the baby and its gender, if you know what it is and would like to share.
Aside from the details of the shower, it is common to include something cute and clever in the body of the invitation, such as a small poem or verse. Before deciding on your wording, you may want to pick out your invitations so you can match the wording to the style of the shower invitations.
If you already know the gender of the baby, you can pick out a gender specific shower invitation, and include a phrase or verse to match. For a girl, you might try our It’s A Girl Ribbon Baby Shower Invitation or our Baby Girl Icons Baby Shower Invitation with the following wording:
A Baby Girl is On Her Way,
Join Us For Her Mommy’s Special Day!
Or,
Little fingers, little toes,
Cute and itsy-bitsy clothes,
Dresses, dollies, bangs and curls,
Can you guess? Yes! It’s a girl!
For a boy, we’ve got a cute and blue It’s A Boy Shower Invitation, or perhaps our Sweet Little Wagon Baby Shower Invitation is more your style. Match either of those with this baby shower invitation wording:
Soft and Sweet, A Bundle of Joy,
Our Mommy-to-Be is Expecting A Boy!
Or,
Snips and snails, and so much more!
That’s what his new mom has in store!
It’s a boy!
If you don’t know the gender of the baby, or would rather spring for a more neutral invitation, there’s plenty of options, like our Cute Pregnant Mommy Baby Shower Invitation or our Modern Baby Buggy Shower Invitation, and your baby shower invitation wording could go something like:
We’re expecting a baby, a sweet bundle of joy
A beautiful gift, whether a girl or a boy!
Or,
Cars and trucks or ribbons and bows
What are they having? No one knows!
You’re invited to a baby shower!
Don’t feel obliged to use a rhyming scheme. You can be as creative or as straightforward as you like. For something a little more simple and serious, you could try:
Join us for a baby shower honoring (expectant mother’s name),
Or,
Come join us in celebrating (expectant mother’s name) upcoming baby girl/boy!
When all is said and done, your baby shower invitation wording should look something like this:
Join us for a baby shower honoring Rachel Johnson

At the Johnson residence
1224 Main Street – Bellingham
R.S.V.P. By Feb. 27th to 777-777-7777

When all is said and done, don’t forget the thank you cards!
